{"id":333,"date":"2012-05-30T08:56:19","date_gmt":"2012-05-30T12:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/retinacanada.com\/en?page_id=333"},"modified":"2012-05-30T08:56:19","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T12:56:19","slug":"central-serous-retinopathy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/retinacanada.com\/en\/?page_id=333","title":{"rendered":"Central Serous Retinopathy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR)<\/strong>\u00a0is a condition of unknown cause in which fluid accumulates underneath the retina in the central macula.\u00a0 This leads to distortion and blurring of vision.\u00a0 Most patients with CSR are males in their third or fourth decade of life.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Full Article<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR)<\/strong>\u00a0is a condition of unknown cause in which fluid accumulates underneath the retina in the central macula.\u00a0 This leads to distortion and blurring of vision.\u00a0 Most patients with CSR are males in their third or fourth decade of life.\u00a0 After the age of 50 or 55, the diagnosis is more difficult to make as there is a certain degree of overlap with age-related macular degeneration.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nStress or corticosteroid use may play a role in inciting or aggravating the condition.\u00a0 Symptoms that a patient may experience include sudden onset of blurred or dim vision and decreased color vision.\u00a0 Patients may also experience distortion of their vision; this is often manifested when reading as being unable to see all of the letters on the line clearly.\u00a0 Patients may also experience seeing objects as smaller than normal.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong><a title=\"Retina Diagnostic Techniques\" href=\"http:\/\/retinacanada.com\/en\/?page_id=325\">Fluorescein angiography<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a common test that can substantiate the diagnosis of CSR. in this test, an orange dye is injected into the patients vein and this dye is observed as it circulates through the ocular vasculature.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Retina Diagnostic Techniques\" href=\"http:\/\/retinacanada.com\/en\/?page_id=325\">Ocular coherence tomography (OCT)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is another test that is helpful.\u00a0 This imaging modality can accurately detect fluid and swelling in the retina.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe typical patient with CSR does not require treatment.\u00a0 Most episodes of this condition are self-limited and resolve within two to three months.\u00a0 In some patients, the subretinal fluid persists for longer than this time period and in if this occurs treatment is recommended.\u00a0 Thermal laser can be applied to the area of retinal pigment epithelium that is thought to play a role in fluid accumulation.\u00a0 Usually this treatment is quite effective and can be very useful when the area of leakage is well away from the center of vision.\u00a0 Other treatment modalities, like photodynamic therapy, can be used in certain situations.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMost patients will recover vision back to normal, however, some patients will report that their vision in the affected eye is not quite as good as compared to the vision in their normal eye even long after the fluid has resolved.\u00a0 Approximately 25% of patients develop a recurrent episode.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address>Tenley Bower, MD, ARCT<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abstract Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR)\u00a0is a condition of unknown cause in which fluid accumulates underneath the retina in the central macula.\u00a0 This leads to distortion and blurring of vision.\u00a0 Most patients with CSR are males in their third or fourth decade of life. &nbsp;
